Happy 20th Birthday ReMida!

ReMida Perth celebrates its 20th birthday in 2024, marking two decades of creative reuse, sustainability, education, arts and community engagement in Western Australia. Inspired by the original ReMida in Reggio Emilia, Italy, ReMida Perth promotes sustainable practices, supports artists and educators, and serves as a hub for creative exploration.

From discarded textiles, plastics, and wood to electronic components, metals, and more, the ReMida collects an eclectic mix of materials that would otherwise end up in landfills. These materials are made available to schools, artists, and community groups at a fraction of the cost, enabling them to create, innovate, and experiment. ReMida is a go-to resource for artists, teachers, hobbyists and educators, offering various materials to enhance diverse learning experiences. These materials save schools money and encourage students to think outside the box and develop problem-solving skills.

ReMida Perth's philosophy aligns with Reggio Emilia's approach to education, emphasising the importance of open-ended materials and the power of self-directed learning. Teachers and students can explore science, art, and sustainability hands-on, fostering a love for lifelong learning.

Beyond the classroom, ReMida Perth plays a pivotal role in promoting sustainability and environmental consciousness in Western Australia. by diverting over 1000 tons of waste from landfills and incineration. It has created a sense of community among its members, fostering connections and collaborations among artists, educators, and environmentally conscious individuals. The centre has become a hub for networking, inspiration, and the exchange of ideas, enriching the cultural fabric of Western Australia.

Since 20008, ReMida's home in West Perth has hosted workshops, exhibitions, and community events that engage people of all ages in creative and sustainable activities. These events promote recycling and upcycling and raise awareness about the importance of responsible consumption.
