ReMida Perth

ReMida Perth, established in 2004, is Western Australia's Creative Centre. Since its incorporation in 2008, ReMida has been an active part of the WA community, supporting the promotion and development of Reggio Emilia-inspired education, arts, and environmental activities across the State.

ReMida Materials extend the idea of useful resources, including discarded materials that are otherwise destined for landfills.

The ReMida concept originated in Reggio Emilia and includes a network of ReMida centres across Europe. Although each ReMida reflects the needs and opportunities tied to its specific cultural setting, it works toward a shared vision with the support of the original ReMida centre in Reggio Emilia.

Remida, a collaborative project, supports the theory that education should be relevant to the social, environmental, and cultural worlds in which individuals (and especially children) are immersed.

ReMida Perth was the first group outside Europe to be invited to join the ReMida network and is very conscious that this project is a lighthouse project in Western Australia and important to the whole community.

ReMida has grown from humble beginnings to a visionary leader in sustainable reuse. In 2004, the teachers and parents of Bold Park Community School collected a 1000 containers of waste materials. These materials became a feature in the artistic installation 'Materials in Dialogue' which was set-up in Forrest Place, in the heart of Perth. This installation inspired the community to rethink waste and discover the endless possibilities of reusable materials. By 2005 the REmida centre opened at the old Cairne TAFE campus and exhibited the 'Sculptures of Identity'. This body of work highlighted the many expressions of identity from children in the local community. From here REmida began to grow and evolve, building relationships with members, volunteers and suppliers. In 2008 REmida WA was incorporated and relocated to a larger premise allowing the centre to attract even more enthusiastic members! And in 2020, REmida took the very important step of registering as a charitable organisation dedicated to creating sustainable communities where children can flourish in education rich environments. Perth's has a rapidly growing community who want to embrace sustainable practises, watch this space as REmida is set to lead the way in creative reuse!

About us

ReMida's Inclusivity Framework

ReMida strives to be an inclusive workplace, community and meeting place, one that can be enjoyed by everyone. As part of that goal, ReMida's Inclusivity Framework outlines the organisation's commitment to being such a place. We equally recognise that a document alone is not enough, but it gives us both a road map to follow and a point of accountability. Please download a copy here; if you require a copy in another format or language, please email frontdesk@remidawa.com.
